Use this guide to learn about how to remove backgrounds from your photos in Unfold Pro.
The Remove Background feature is an Unfold Pro feature that embeds a third-party service from PhotoRoom to bring one-tap background removal magic to Unfold.
There are two ways to remove the background from a photo:
- You can remove the background of your photos before adding them to a project using Remove Background.
- You can remove the background from photos that are already in a project using Cutout.
Note: Unfold Plus and Free users can try the feature and remove one background without a Pro subscription.
Remove Background
To remove the background of a photo before adding it to a Reel, Post, or Story:
- On the Unfold home screen, tap the + icon.
- Tap Remove Background.
- Select a photo.
- Slide the Magic Wand to the right—it may take a few seconds for the background to be removed by PhotoRoom.
- Once complete, tap ✓ to accept the background removal.
- In the top-right corner, tap the export icon.
- Select an option to download or share your new photo.
Note: It's not possible to remove the background from a video clip.
Cutout
Cutout is a tool used to remove the backgrounds of photos used in existing projects.
To remove the background of a photo in a Post, or Story:
- On the Unfold home screen, tap Projects.
- Select the Post or Story you want to edit.
- Tap a photo from which to remove the background.
- Tap Cutout.
- Slide the Magic Wand to the right—it may take a few seconds for the background to be removed by PhotoRoom.
- Once complete, tap ✓ to accept the background removal.
To remove the background of a photo in a Reel (iOS Only):
- On the Unfold home screen, tap Projects.
- Select a Reel.
- Tap a photo thumbnail at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap …, then Edit.
- Tap the photo displayed in the preview screen.
- Tap Cutout.
- Slide the Magic Wand to the right—it may take a few seconds for the background to be removed by PhotoRoom.
- Once complete, tap ✓ to accept the background removal.
- Tap the back icon to return to the Reel timeline.
