Web: Selling digital downloads on your Bio Site

Sell digital goods such as music, art and PDFs.

If you connect your Bio Site to a Stripe or PayPal account, you can sell digital downloads directly through your Bio Site. You can sell ebooks, audio files, and other downloadable content. Visitors tap or click a button in your Bio Site to choose a product, and then check out. You can add digital products either via URL, or by importing them from your device.

You can also set up a Digital Downloads section without connecting to a payment processor by linking to a payment platform instead. 

Note:You can sell a link to a file you've already uploaded to your Squarespace website.

Before you begin

• The file size limit for a download is 300 MB.
• You can add up to five Digital Downloads to your Bio Site. 
• All file types are accepted, but only one file can be added to each digital download. You can zip files together and upload the zipped file to a download product as long as it's under 300 MB.
• Remove any special characters, such as em-dashes (—), from the file name prior to uploading. Special characters in the file name can prevent the file from downloading for your customers.
• It's not possible to set the quantity or add variants or SKUs for Digital Downloads.
• It’s not possible to sell download products as subscriptions.
• The link expires 30 days after the purchase. If a customer clicks an expired link, we'll send a new link to the email address used for the initial purchase.
• If you replace a file in a digital download section after a customer makes a purchase, your customer receives an updated file link to their email address.

Add a digital downloads section

You can add a digital products section by either uploading a file from your device or by linking to a file you uploaded online previously.

To add a digital downloads section from the web editor:

1. ​​In the left navigation menu, click to open the Sections panel.
2. Under Audience & Monetization, click Digital Download.
3. Click Upload file, and click Add file if you’re adding a file from your device.
4. Click Use URL, and enter the file URL to the URL field if you’re adding a link to a file.
5. Click Finish.
6. Add a title to the Title field.
7. Edit the Button copy field to update the wording on the button.
8. Add the cost of your digital download to the Price field. 
9. (Optional) Add an image and description.
10. Click Add payment provider. 
11. Click Connect Stripe to accept payments directly through Stripe, click Connect PayPal to accept payments directly through PayPal.
12. Follow the prompts to connect to Stripe or PayPal.
13. Repeat these steps for each payment platform you want to add.
14. In the top-right corner, click Update to publish your changes.

Rearrange or delete a digital download

After adding digital downloads to the section, you can rearrange or delete them from the Sections panel. 

To rearrange your digital downloads:

1. In the left navigation menu, click to open the Sections panel.
2. Click and hold next to the section you want to move, then drag it to a new position.
3. In the top-right corner, click Update to publish your changes.

To delete your digital downloads: 

1. In the left navigation menu, click to open the Sections panel.
2. Hover over a section and click to the left of the section. 
3. In the top-right corner, click Update to publish your changes.
