Using a crypto wallet with Unfold

A crypto wallet holds your digital collectibles, plus any cryptocurrencies or other digital assets you receive. You’ll be prompted to create a new wallet or use an existing wallet the first time you create a digital collectible in Unfold, and any time you try to create a digital collectible without a wallet connected.

This feature is currently available only to Unfold Pro users and users in early access.

To learn what a crypto wallet is and how to keep yours safe, visit About blockchain, crypto, and Ethereum.

Which crypto wallet to use

You can create a new crypto wallet in Unfold, or use an existing crypto wallet.

If you’re using an existing crypto wallet, you can import it from any wallet manager into the Unfold wallet manager. You can also link Unfold to certain third-party wallet managers.

If you create a crypto wallet through Unfold, you can move it to a third-party wallet manager later if you want. If you move it to a supported third-party wallet, you can continue to use the wallet with Unfold by linking your third-party wallet manager to Unfold.

Create a crypto wallet

Tip: If you already have a wallet, you can import it to Unfold instead of creating a new wallet.

To create a new wallet:

  1. Start creating a new digital collectible. When prompted, check the bubble to agree to the Terms of Service, then tap Create new wallet.
  2. Check the bubble to acknowledge that if you lose your secret phrase, you'll lose access to your funds forever.
  3. Check the bubble to acknowledge that it’s your responsibility to keep your secret phrase secure.
  4. Tap Backup wallet.
  5. Tap OK, I saved it somewhere.
  6. Tap Yes to acknowledge you’ve written down your secret phrase.

Storing your secret phrase

You should never share your secret phrase. If you lose your secret phrase, you'll lose access to your crypto wallet and no one will be able to recover it for you. To learn more about secret phrases, including how to store them, visit About blockchain, crypto, and Ethereum.

Link to a crypto wallet

You can link your wallet to Unfold, rather than importing it directly, if it’s managed through a third-party wallet provider supported by Unfold.

To link a third-party crypto wallet to Unfold:

  1. Start creating a new digital collectible. When prompted, check the bubble to agree to our Terms of Service, then tap Use an existing wallet.
  2. Tap the wallet provider you want to use.
  3. Follow the prompts to link your wallet.

If you link to a third-party wallet, you may be prompted from time to time to re-authorize Unfold’s access to the wallet. You’ll be taken to the third-party wallet app to provide the authorization. This is an expected security precaution, and you won’t ever be asked for your secret phrase as part of this re-authorization process.

Import a crypto wallet

Importing a crypto wallet is the process of connecting your wallet on the blockchain to your chosen wallet manager. You'll use the wallet manager to see and manage your digital assets, but the crypto wallet itself always remains on the blockchain. To learn more, visit About blockchain, crypto, and Ethereum.

To import an existing wallet from another wallet provider to Unfold:

  1. Ensure you don’t currently have a wallet connected to Unfold by following the steps to view your wallet. If you have a wallet connected and want to replace it, first ensure you’ve saved your secret phrase, then disconnect the existing wallet.
  2. Start creating a new digital collectible.
  3. When prompted, check the bubble to agree to Terms of Service, then tap Use an existing wallet.
  4. Tap Import from secret phrase.
  5. Enter your secret phrase for that wallet, then tap Import.

View your wallet with the Unfold wallet manager

After connecting or creating a wallet, you can access the wallet management screen by tapping the two lines in the top-left corner of the app home screen, then tapping Wallet. You can also go to the Projects panel, tap Collectibles, then tap your wallet.

Converting cryptocurrency to physical currency

To convert cryptocurrency in your crypto wallet to another cryptocurrency or a physical currency, use a cryptocurrency exchange.

Keep in mind:

  • Check your local laws on cryptocurrency before transferring cryptocurrency.
  • If you decide to move cryptocurrency out of your wallet, it’s critical that you verify the public key to which you’re sending it.

Send cryptocurrency

To send Ether cryptocurrency out of your wallet:

  1. Open your wallet, then tap Send Funds.
  2. Enter the recipient’s public key and the amount you want to send. Always double check the public key you are sending funds to. Transfers can't be undone once sent.
  3. Tap Send, then tap Send again to approve the transfer.

Note: There is an Ethereum gas fee for transferring funds from your wallet. The amount displays as part of the transfer verification before you tap Send for the final time.

Disconnect your wallet

Note:

  • Before you disconnect your wallet, ensure you’ve saved your secret phrase. If you disconnect your wallet without saving your secret phrase, you’ll permanently lose access to your wallet.
  • If you’re importing your Unfold Wallet to another wallet provider, disconnect your wallet from Unfold after importing it to the new manager.

To disconnect your wallet:

  1. Open your wallet.
  2. Tap .
  3. Tap Disconnect wallet.
  4. Tap Disconnect.

If you’re moving your wallet from Unfold to another wallet provider, and you choose a wallet provider that Unfold can connect with, you can continue to create Unfold digital collectibles with the same wallet. After disconnecting, when you create a new digital collectible, you’ll be prompted to create or link a wallet and can link to your wallet at Rainbow or Trust Wallet.

Reconnect a crypto wallet created with Unfold

If you’ve disconnected a crypto wallet you created with Unfold, you can reconnect it.

To reconnect:

  1. Ensure you don’t currently have a wallet connected to Unfold by following the steps to view your wallet. If you have a wallet connected and want to replace it, first ensure you’ve saved your secret phrase, then disconnect the existing wallet
