App: Selling digital downloads on your Bio Site

Sell digital goods such as music, art and PDFs.

If you connect your Bio Site to a Stripe or PayPal account, you can sell digital downloads directly through your Bio Site. You can sell ebooks, audio files, and other downloadable content. Visitors tap or click a button in your Bio Site to choose a product, and then check out. You can add digital products either via URL, or by importing them from your device.

You can also set up a Digital Downloads section without connecting to a payment processor by linking to a payment platform instead.

Note:You can sell a link to a file you've already uploaded to your Squarespace website.

Before you begin

• The file size limit for a download is 300 MB.
• You can add up to five Digital Downloads to your Bio Site.
• All file types are accepted, but only one file can be added to each digital download. You can zip files together and upload the zipped file to a download product as long as it's under 300 MB.
• Remove any special characters, such as em-dashes (—), from the file name prior to uploading. Special characters in the file name can prevent the file from downloading for your customers.
• It's not possible to set the quantity or add variants or SKUs for Digital Downloads.
• It’s not possible to sell download products as subscriptions.
• The link expires 30 days after the purchase. If a customer clicks an expired link, we'll send a new link to the email address used for the initial purchase.
• If you replace a file in a digital download section after a customer makes a purchase, your customer receives an updated file link to their email address.

Add a digital downloads section

You can add a digital products section by either uploading a file from your device or by linking to a file you uploaded online previously.

To add a digital downloads section:

1. While editing your Bio Site, tap Sections.
2. Under Audience & Monetization, tap Digital Download.
3. Tap Upload file, and tap Add file if you’re adding a file from your device.
4. Tap Use URL, and enter the file URL to the URL field if you’re adding a link to a file.
5. Tap Finish.
6. Add a title to the Title field.
7. Edit the Button copy field to update the wording on the button.
8. Add the cost of your digital download to the Price field. 
9. (Optional) Add an image and description.
10. Tap Add payment provider. 
11. Tap Connect Stripe to accept payments directly through Stripe, tap Connect PayPal to accept payments directly through PayPal.
12. Follow the prompts to connect to Stripe or PayPal, or enter your account information and tap ✓.
13. Repeat these steps for each payment platform you want to add.
14. Tap the back arrow, and tap Update.

Rearrange or delete a digital download

After adding digital downloads to the section, you can rearrange or delete them from the Sections panel. 

To rearrange your digital downloads:

1. While editing your Bio Site, tap Sections.
2. Next to My Sections, tap the pencil icon.
3. Tap and hold = next to the section you want to move, then drag it to a new position.
4. Once you've completed your changes, tap ✓.
5. In the top-right corner, tap Share to publish your changes.

To delete your digital downloads:

1. While editing your Bio Site, tap Sections.
2. Next to My Sections, tap the pencil icon.
3. Tap the red delete icon to the left of the section.
4. Tap Delete to confirm you wish to delete the section.
5. Once you've completed your changes, tap ✓.
6. In the top-right corner, tap Share to publish your changes.
